Theresa Ngan "Reese" Nguyen, M.A.

Second-Year Graduate Student University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dept. of Psychology University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Reese (she/her) is a second-year graduate student in the Clinical Psychology Training Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is interested in researching factors perpetuating interpersonal violence (e.g., child maltreatment, IPV, sexual assault) across the lifespan and intergenerationally (e.g., parenting following traumatic experiences). Her clinical interests center around supporting survivors of interpersonal violence, especially in diverse and marginalized communities.

Reese graduated from California State University San Marcos in 2020 with a B.A. in Psychological Science. She received her M.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University, where her research surrounded risk factors and long-term consequences related to victimization in childhood and adolescence. Her master’s thesis examined externalizing pathways linking youth polyvictimization to increased sexual risk-taking in young adulthood. In addition to her thesis work, Reese studied how women’s childhood maltreatment experiences shape their conceptualizations of intimate partner violence (IPV), and how challenges in defining childhood psychological maltreatment contribute to inconsistent reporting. These research experiences, along with her personal experiences as a sexual minority, disabled student, and second-generation Vietnamese American, motivate her to serve underrepresented communities as a researcher and clinician.

In her free time, Reese enjoys cooking, baking sourdough, reading, playing tennis, and weightlifting.
